Ethan and the Slide

Joshua 1:9

This is Sophie saying this month's Family Quest Memory Verse.

Update

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything. Lots, yet nothing at the same time, has been going on in the McSmith household!

Kevin's parents were able to come for a visit a few weeks ago. It was much shorter than we all wanted, but we had a great time. They surprised Kevin for his deacon ordination. Not sure how we pulled off a surprise, but we did! Can't wait to see them again, hopefully sometime this summer.

In just a few short weeks both of our kiddos will be having birthdays (one day apart). How is it that a year has gone by already? It seems like it was just yesterday that I was on stage leading worship doing my best to convince myself that these contractions would go away and there was no way this little guy would come before Sophie's birthday! But, alas, he will be one and Sophie will be 4! Where does all the time go? They are both so sweet and I cannot imagine life without them! What did we do before we had children to brighten our day, frustrate the snot out of us, make us laugh, and show us more and more about God's love?

We made a decision about Sophie and school next year. We decided not to send her to preschool. I talked with our Parents as Teachers worker and, come to find out, Sophie has actually already passed the kindergarten screening, she's just a year to young to start school. So, we decided that the $1,000 it would cost to send her could probably be used better somewhere else. We have put her on the list to be a helper in the PAT special education pre-school class...but with the state cutting so much money from the PAT budget, that class may not happen. But, I know that she will still be learning here at home, and if the class doesn't happen we will have more of a chance to get out and visit family, etc. Plus, Ethan just loves having Sissy around, so this gives him one more year with her before she is gone all day at school. I feel totally at peace about the decision and know it's the right one for us and for Sophie at this time. We'll have to cross this bridge again with Ethan, but no need to worry about that now!

Still trying to work out a morning routine. Ethan has been teething and it is messing his sleep up, so sometimes he naps, sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he's up at 6 (which makes it really hard for me to get up and do quiet time and exercise before he's up), sometimes not until 8. I just never really know! So, I get up and do my quiet time and if there's time for exercise, I do it, and if not, I try not to get all anal about fitting it in. I remind myself that I do get exercise chasing the kids around and running up and down the stairs all day...and I really want to use the time when the kids are up to spend with them, so I just do what I have to do. Of course, that means the house is a mess most of the time, but the kids and I are having fun and making memories!

We've started Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. March is the first month in my 31 years that I have ever lived on a budget, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! I have really cut my unnecessary spending down and now we have more for things that are more important. Still have a few bugs in the system to work out, but pretty excited at how well it's going! I'll have to keep you posted and see if next month goes as smoothly with 3 birthdays happening (Kevin's birthday is at the end of the month! Yep, I'm the only one in the house whose birthday is not in April!)
